Can There Be Too Much Water

You bet there can be! And, especially when there is a drought, having too much water in the wrong place is not - not good.

For days I had water pooling on the surface of the ground cover (Freelander Blue Prunella) near my White Garden. So, I started digging and sure enough the water line from the meter to the house was having a gay ol' time shooting water.

The water line was placed when the house was built in 1973. Back then - yes, back then, they used a Polybutylene piping in new construction. It was a low-cost piping formed of plastic resin and was a substitute for copper piping in both underground water mains and interior plumbing. It has been discovered that as poly pipe ages and reacts with water-soluble oxidants, it begins to degrade and can leak and cause damage.

Polpbutylene piping is no longer used. It was recommended that I have the line from the meter replaced. I think NOT. Thank you very much! But, the repair is going to do quite nicely. It so happens that several years ago when I had a small numbers of sprinklers installed they nicked the water line in that exact site and had repaired it. See that huge rock below the water line. That is what my entire property is like. Gardening is oh so much fun when I want to do planting! It usually takes removal of about a five gallon bucket of rock in order to plant a one-gallon container plant. And, as you can see, many of the rocks are what I call "NON-NEGOTIABLE".

It is a good thing that I enjoy the outdoors. I have had over twenty years to sit and dig holes with an array of hand tools negotiating with rocks to let me in. I have to stay away from long handled pry bars because of my back. Where there is a will, there is a way.

I like to joke about being MS GOTROCKS. However, I ain't got money but I sure got ROCKS!

Just a little trivia - in case you are younger than me, most are.  Ms Gotrocks is a person who acts like they have a lot of money to spend and flaunts it.

It's Going To Be A Sweet Busy Day In The Garden

Would you like me to come to your garden, also?

I know I have extra seeds!

Hope this puts a smile on your face.

For Viv And Randy

Gotta get a new coffee maker so I can see what I am doing. Or - I will have to use my little stool every morning while I'm still half asleep. And, that would not be good! I better go shopping!

Sad And Serious - California Drought

This is the Paarrots Ferry bridge that I have to drive over every time I need to go to the stores where I do shopping other than grocery shopping. It is about a 30 minute drive to the stores. This photo was taken June 29 of this year by an acquaintance of mine as she was taking a morning walk for the purpose of seeing the water level. It is so difficult to see how devastated this area is looking as well as so much of California.

In 1993 when I moved to this area in the Sierra-Nevada Foothills this area was so beautiful - - - and still is. But, it is certainly different! I like Green a lot more than Brown! ! !

Look how HIGH the water level was in 2005. Photo from Internet Images.

And, another beautiful photo from 2008! Again from Internet Images.

This is the Old Melones Bridge which has never been this visible since the Melones Reservoir and Paarrots Ferry Bridge were built in approximately 1979.   And, that includes the year of 1992 when California experienced a severe drought whereby the base of the piers of the new bridge were visible.

Let's Pray for Rain as well as for The Earth and all the people who are seriously affected by all the ramifications the lack of water presents!.

Shades Of Pink With Sweet Loveliness

Oh, how sweet The BABY (my new Great Granddaughter) is among the loveliness of flowers and a mandala thrown in for a little whimsy!

I feel like I am finally coming alive again following many months of living day at a time in recovering from a very traumatic past year. It has been a little over six months since My Special Friend passed away - and - I am doing GOOD. And, I am very thankful that the dark days seem to be in the past. I am returning to the creative things that I enjoy so much in my life.

But, let's talk about that precious baby, My first Great Granddaughter. She was born on April 24 into a wonderful little family. A great mommy and daddy and a loving little brother.

Her BIG little brother (almost two years old) was waiting patiently for her arrival and has been such a good little brother and helper!

I have not been able to see the family since she was born. But, I sure look forward to the visit. That sweet little smile just lights up my life! And, she really got lucky in getting the Best Mama in all the world. My Granddaughter is such a natural at mothering and loves every (almost) minute of it.

I Dressed My Mixer Today

Yep, that is what I did. It is almost finished. I say that because awhile back when I ordered from etsy these fun vinyl decals I did not notice that 50  tiny flier delis decals were missing from the package. So, I have contacted the seller and hopefully they will be sent soon so I can finish "dressing my mixer"!

LOOK - LOOK, she no longer is naked. I think she looks great and will look even better when I apply the additional flourish of the tiny fleur delis in the open areas.

And, it is so easy.  Just place the decal and then remove the backing paper. That's all there is to it!

The backing paper comes off very easy.

 And, WHAT FUN!

When I receive the fleur delis and finish "dressing my mixer" I will be sure and post the finished product. Stay tuned.
