Over The Bridge And Through The Woods

That's what the Girl  (that's me)  did yesterday !
It has been over a year since I made that little road trip to some stores that are larger and have greater selections than what is available nearby my home.  I'm talking about stores like Lowe's,  Big Lots, Walmart and JoAnn's.  I have found that it is not to difficult to live without those stores since Internet shopping is readily available with increasing sites available with no shipping charges.   Plus,  at my stage of life, how many things do I really need versus want??

The last few years have been quite difficult for me following many losses and unexpected events in my life.  This has meant that I have stayed a lot closer to home while I am slowly finding  my way back to a life with more Joy and Purpose and improved psychological Health!!!  Perhaps, the biggest changing factor for me has been the loss of so many (and I really mean many) close friends and four-legged "love bugs" that have departed for The Hereafter.   Even though I have lived alone for the majority of my life (for various reasons) I have found that at this stage of my life it is a lot more difficult to live day to day feeling enthusiastic, adventurous, creative and independent.

Well, anyway,      I really enjoyed my day even though I did not have a companion to travel along with me to laugh, purr or bark and share the adventure.  I visited Lowe's to buy the spray paint  that I am going to use to refurbish my very old iron patio furniture.  One Homecrest small adjustable-height table with two swivel-rocker chairs is from the 1970's and the larger table set with four chairs is from the 1980's.  I tend to always take the best care I can of my things/possessions and the patio furniture is in great condition.  A good spray coat of premium paint and it all should look sparkly brand new.   I managed to find a few other things that have been on my shopping list for quite awhile.

Then, I stopped in at Applebee's Restaurant for a small lunch of Fish and Chips with cole slaw.  It was nicely prepared and very good.

Then, off to Walmart for some paper products, cleaning supplies and a few miscellaneous items that have been on another list for quite some time.  And much to my SURPRISE, the 27,000 square foot expansion and newly remodeled Supercenter had celebrated it's grand opening in June.
This is the local store at the beginning of the store expansion one year ago.

The large grocery department looked very nice from a distance as I knew I was too tired to peruse the whole store I will have to check out the produce next time.

Later in the day I prepared some simple food for my neighbor and a couple of his workers in appreciation for all the many times he takes my yard/garden rubbish to the local dump.
I fixed some Mixed Beans with Ground Beef  (now , that's simple !)  with some garlic sourdough toast.  And, then to add the necessary "sweet stuff" I baked some Fudge Molten Lava Brownies.

The fellows were very happy with my little surprise for them.
That's a Splatter Guard that I am trying in an effort to not have so much grease to clean up on the stovetop.  I think I will like it.  Time will tell.  Very inexpensive.

Wishing all of you a Good Weekend and let's send positive thoughts/energy and prayers for all those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in the Texas region.

A Little Cyber Monday Shopping

It seems as though during the past few months everything in my house of any significant dollar value is giving up and saying "I quit" or "I'm going to make your life miserable". Granted it has been several years since most of the "offenders" were purchased. But give me a break, not all in the same year!

Well anyway, even though I had the hard drive in my laptop restored, life in my computer world just isn't what it should be or what I want it to be. The desktop computer is very old with Windows XP which makes it almost obsolete in my book.  And the printer is old, big, clunky, heavy and acting up. And, not wireless. Do I sound happy? NO.

I really hate spending what little money I have on things like this. But, there comes a day when my frustration forces me to make these decisions.

After-all, the range, microwave, garbage disposal, all started fighting with me and demanded that I spend some money. Thankfully, they seem happy now.

So, now I should let myself get excited and tell you what I am getting.

The laptop is Hewlett Packard ENVY x360, 2 in 1, 15.6 in TouchScreen Intel Core i5 12GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive. I think I got a very good price with $200 off and free shipping.

And, the printer is Hewlett Packard ENVY 4520 wireless All in One Instant Ink Ready. It is not as fancy as my last printer but I am sure it will meet my needs. And, this was $50 off and free shipping.

No longer will I have a desktop PC. But that is fine. The new laptop is larger than I have had in the past and it has anything I might want. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 that was a gift a few years ago. I can use it more often if I learn a little more about the many options.

So, when the new electronics arrive in a couple days I will be embarking on a pretty steep learning curve. It seems as though there is always so many things to learn in this day and age of technology.

I never like making these decisions on my own but I have done it for years and usually come out OK with what I finally decide. Wish me luck.

Went To See A Storyteller

Have you ever gone to a program that was presented by Professional Storytellers? Oh, you must, if you ever have the opportunity.
It was a few years ago that I first attended such a program. There were several renowned presenters from far and near. Prior to that experience, I did not realize there were Professional Storytellers. Was I ever surprised with the talent of those individuals!

Even though I live in a small mountain community, we are blessed to have a lot of Creative Arts activities that take place all year long. "There's a lot of talent in them thar hills." There is always  something to do whether it be theater, art galleries, featured artist showing, pottery exhibits where pottery is being made, musicals, poetry telling/readings, dance and many more. I think you get the idea.

Well, this past week I decided that it is time for me to get more involved with the life around me. So, yesterday I jumped in my car and went to hear the storyteller. This was a one person show and the presenter is well known in this community. She also attends the same church where I am a member. She is extremely talented and I have heard her numerous times. It fascinates me how the tone of voice, animations and facial expressions can make a simple story become mesmerizing. What a talent.

I saw several people that I know and it was great to get out and do something I enjoy. It was such a busy day. First, I went to the post office, then dropped off my checks at the water district office and sanitary district office. Then down the road a spell, I went to Starbucks because I had run out of coffee at home. They were out of my favorite Caramel Macchiato latte, so I had a Pumpkin Spice latte along with a little piece of coffee cake. Yum-yum! Let me tell you, it is a rare event these days for me to go to Starbucks. But, it was so nice to sit at the window and read my newspaper among a little hustle-bustle. Next on the to-do-list was the pet and farm store to get Lily's food. Since she was diagnosed with her heart condition, she has been on a special food (very healthy and nutritious) that is not sold at my grocery store. On my way back I stopped to grocery shop. I kid you not, every time I buy groceries I am sure the prices are higher than the last time.

I had enough time to take my groceries home and then I was off to see (not the wizard) but the Storyteller. It was a Very Good Day.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

For Viv And Randy

Gotta get a new coffee maker so I can see what I am doing. Or - I will have to use my little stool every morning while I'm still half asleep. And, that would not be good! I better go shopping!
