OK Now - Where Was I When The "Computer Gremlins" Last Came To Visit

One thing that I know for sure is that I have been very busy and getting a lot of different things accomplished along with many (way to many) frustrating hours in my "Computer Repair Room".   How is that for creating a new room in my house?  Not really.  After many periods of despair and feeling defeated,  I finally have my computer devices and the Internet "singing the same song in harmony from the same hymnal".  And, I am getting closer to using my new Windows 10 computer all the time.  It really is a nice machine.  I still have to transfer a lot of data.  Call me crazy, but I get very restless when my computer isn't working correctly, especially if I get myself locked out.  Lately, passwords have been driving me cuckoo.  In the past I seemed to be able to remember most of them but now I have had to change some and I am getting them all mixed up !!!  -  even when I write them down.  Is my age starting to play havoc with me ?  It better not be.

Progress at the Cemetery Burial Plot has been good.  Last week the surrounding curbing was completed and the workman even can to my home (which is only a five minute drive from the cemetery) and picked up a lot of the rock from my garden to use for a little decorative touch on the top surface of the curbing.  For what it is worth  -  it gives it a little personal touch.  The next issue is to decide on the head stone.  We have been talking about using one of the large rocks from my garden as the headstone.  I thought it would be less expensive but that is not the case.  Most of the large/boulder rock that I have is granite and not a very good rock for engraving.  However, the workman pointed out a rock in my patio rock wall that is called Columbia Marble that may work well.  We'll just have to wait and see how all this goes.
Look at the huge size of the boulders setting around my garden.  They are from the excavation of the property before the house could be built.   I really like them.

How crazy is this?  A few weeks ago on an impulse I bought 2 little 4in. by 4in. plants, one a tomato and one a zucchini.  I didn't get them planted right away and they would dry out, I would water them and that went on for a few days before I got them popped in the dirt.
And look,  I sure was surprised to see this beautiful zucchini and below is a beautiful tomato.
I like these surprises.  Hopefully, there will be more to come.

Another large outdoor project is underway.   I have English Ivy covering the one side of the pathway that stretches along where the water flows when we have heavy rains. It's a ditch that I lovingly call The Creek.

Can you see my bridge at the distant end of My Creek?

English Ivy can be very invasive and the time had come to corral it. More importantly, since the area was covered with cedar tree seedlings and an invasive plant called Wild Perennial Sweet Pea I decided to remove the surface of the ivy and the other offending plants and then allow fresh ivy to once again cover the slope. See that little purple spot. That is the purple (no fragrance) wild sweet pea flowes that have been spreading their long tentacles all over the ivy.
As you can see, I only have a small portion left to clear.  This is time consuming work especially since my methods of accomplishing many things is quite different than a very abled body.  One without a back injury!  I usually sit on the ground on a nice large foam cushion and cut away all the surface roots with a hand pruner.  I usually can only work for about two hours at a time.   I am like a little turtle just creeping along and then marveling at how much I get accomplished!   And, of course, since I really like being outdoors  -  it works for me.

This is the Iris and Chrysanthemum flowerbed with bluish/purple Petunia border months ago.
And now, it won't be long and the Yellow and Maroon Chrysanthemums will be in full color.

My power washing of the moss covered cement is almost completed.  I delayed finishing because my neighbors were visiting their second home next door  and the power washer makes a lot of noise. They were here for over a week.  So, I can soon finish that project.

More project updates next time.

I hope you are enjoying your week.

I Need Some Cooling Off

From the Heat of the day, Yes - - - But that wasn't the main cause of me heating up.

Have you heard of Computer Problems ? ? ?

Well, as you may recall, last fall I purchased a new laptop with Windows 10.   I use it part of the time even though I have not learned about all the great things it can do.   My older laptop has Windows 7 and was bought in 2010.    With a lot of tinkering, I have been able to bring it back to good working order.    Because I have not transferred everything to the new laptop, I find that I frequently use the older one.   It is not without it's issues.   But, I guess it is like an old pair of slippers.   They are not perfect but that ol' familiarity has a strong draw.

I like having two computers (and have had for many years) because I use one computer to problem solve when one is in my "repair shop" !

OK, let's get to the topic of this post.   Last night, all of a sudden Windows 10 would not connect to the Internet.   After trying several attempts a message comes up and says that it will no longer be available and I will be notified later about what to do.   With all the scams that occur unexpectedly, I really did not know what to think.   So, I "closed up shop" for the night and decided to return to the very annoying situation in the morning.

Much to my surprise, there was an email in the morning from Comcast saying that there is a technical issue with the Wireless Gateway in my home (it is an older device) and they will send an upgraded model replacement that I will have to activate.  Wow, I hope this event turns out as good as it seems at the moment.   After being "burned a few times" I believe I have become a little cynical ! !
In reality, Windows 7 has been having delays in connecting to the Internet.  Hopefully, the new device will take care of that issue also.

Until Next Time.

No Really - All Is Good

You can find some of the craziest pictures on this thing called the World Wide Web !!! She looks pretty upset to me . Thankfully, I did NOT get to that point with my recent  foray .

In fact , I am hopeful that the incident is a closed chapter . But , first of all I want to say it was the most bizarre and different type of scam then I have ever heard of . The specifics are to lengthy to reiterate .  Sometimes our current circumstances make us more vulnerable then usual . Thankfully, we are not talking about a lot of money - but any amount is too much . I think the only damage will be my singed pride.

I took action by doing some homework on the matter and immediately called my bank and put a stop on any related transaction . I have been receiving emails and telephone calls from the "offender" that I did not respond to until I thoughtfully prepared an email to send. I am blogging the email that I sent to them only in the hopes that my experience may help someone.

My email said, "This email is to notify you that the payment for this transaction has been terminated . According to the Federal Trade Commission and California State Law 3-Day Right To Cancel I am within my legal rights to cancel .  Your business tactics have been misrepresentative and fraudulent . There is no way that a New Computer (two days ownership) was in need of your fraudulent services . I will not go into detail as I am aware that you have had numerous contacts/complaints from other individuals who have filed reports of displeasure about your business services . I will be diligent in surveillance of all of your activities that may have impact on my personal business  This is a final notice to you . I will not be responding to your phone calls or any emails ."

And that was that . The emails and phone calls have stopped . I am optimistic that this chapter will be closed . Time will tell .

We have been having slow pleasant rains for days . The snow levels are getting lower, that meaning closer to my elevation . But it is time that I leave the house and run some errands.

Hope your weekend will be a Pleasant one.

Stepping Away

But - - - just for a little time until I get comfortable with my new Laptop (windows 10) and Printer. You know how it goes with all the Internet connections, transferring files and data, moving the old and setting up the new electronics. I have spent  most of the day with activity related to new electronics.

Unfortunately, I encountered a drop-down message this morning soon after I turned the computer on. It stated that it was urgent to call a certain phone number to ensure that my computer would not be damaged by unsafe software. Without going into detail. I will say that the activity caused me great aggravation. The long and the short of it is - It was a scam. And, it has taken a lot of time to reverse unwanted activity on my new computer. I did a lot of google information gathering and found that  there have been many complaints reported to the Better Business Bureau. If you are interested in more specifics just leave me a comment or email.

To say the least, I am very tired tonight and do not plan to blog until my computer learning curve is further along.

With all the things that are taking my attention and energy it is going to be just fine that my Christmas holidays are going to be quiet. But, don't be surprised if something comes up that I want to blog about. Like, maybe winning the lottery! HA-HA.

Today Is The Big Delivery

Yes, my new laptop and printer are expected to arrive today in the afternoon and I really am excited. I think it is my Christmas present to ME. Pretty nice one at that. However, I am not very excited about the whole set-up thing. It would be nice to have someone around to help or answer the many questions that I know I will have. In my limited contacts with people I must find someone who knows more than I do about computers.

It is chilly outdoors and I have to go out and clean up a lot more leaves. On Friday, my neighbor blew all the many many leaves off my roof for which I am very grateful. I told him I would clean up all the leaves and mess. I wasn't able to get it all finished so out I go to finish the job. I filled 5, yes, 5 more large trash barrels with leaves and pine needles.

I also was able to clean the leaf covered new Iris Garden Bed. Iris are subject to fungus, so I thought perhaps good drainage along with good air circulation may help to avoid unwanted conditions.

It looks light everyone of the newly planted are doing well. Weeds are starting to come up. If it isn't one thing it's another. One thing about the drought was that the weeds weren't much of an issue. With the rains, which are very good, means more weeds.

AFTERNOON UPDATE - - - The computer and printer arrived. I know what I will be doing tonight.

Hope your week is starting off nicely.

A Little Cyber Monday Shopping

It seems as though during the past few months everything in my house of any significant dollar value is giving up and saying "I quit" or "I'm going to make your life miserable". Granted it has been several years since most of the "offenders" were purchased. But give me a break, not all in the same year!

Well anyway, even though I had the hard drive in my laptop restored, life in my computer world just isn't what it should be or what I want it to be. The desktop computer is very old with Windows XP which makes it almost obsolete in my book.  And the printer is old, big, clunky, heavy and acting up. And, not wireless. Do I sound happy? NO.

I really hate spending what little money I have on things like this. But, there comes a day when my frustration forces me to make these decisions.

After-all, the range, microwave, garbage disposal, all started fighting with me and demanded that I spend some money. Thankfully, they seem happy now.

So, now I should let myself get excited and tell you what I am getting.

The laptop is Hewlett Packard ENVY x360, 2 in 1, 15.6 in TouchScreen Intel Core i5 12GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive. I think I got a very good price with $200 off and free shipping.

And, the printer is Hewlett Packard ENVY 4520 wireless All in One Instant Ink Ready. It is not as fancy as my last printer but I am sure it will meet my needs. And, this was $50 off and free shipping.

No longer will I have a desktop PC. But that is fine. The new laptop is larger than I have had in the past and it has anything I might want. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 that was a gift a few years ago. I can use it more often if I learn a little more about the many options.

So, when the new electronics arrive in a couple days I will be embarking on a pretty steep learning curve. It seems as though there is always so many things to learn in this day and age of technology.

I never like making these decisions on my own but I have done it for years and usually come out OK with what I finally decide. Wish me luck.

It is after 7 PM and the temperature out my front door is over 100 degrees! After a week of temperatures increasing each day to heights above 100 degrees I am looking forward to this coming week as the forecasted weather is expected to be cooler. And, I sure hope so. It is not so bad when it cools off at night time but last night it was still near 90 degrees at 10 PM.

I am so fortunate to be in safe temperatures with my A/C (which I use conservatively) and my little box fans. It is such a concern for all the people that do not have that fortune. Hopefully, they are able to find "cool spots" in order to be safe! I know there are many parts of the states that are experiencing high summer heat and it can be so difficult for so many different reasons. Let's remember all of them with prayers for comfort and safety.

My laptop computer is still unwell!  I look forward to getting it back!

You know, some days it can be just "too hot to think" so I think that's all there is for now. Thanks for your recent comments.

Computer Hysteria- Danger

I'll be away so I can send my Laptop out to a  ?-professional-? to get me up and running again. I may have trashed the whole thing. I hope not. I am using an old desktop with windows XP for this. Not good. Hopefully, I'll be back soon and able to load photos, also.

Happy - happy to everyone!

No Hearts And Flowers Coming My Way

From My Computer these days! It seems that quite often when I find myself in uncharted waters it doesn't take long before I wish I had seen the monster coming after me. I can still use the computer but there definitely are ISSUES! Wow, it is always such a time eater and I would rather be outside even though we are in a heat wave. With all the large trees on my little piece of property I can always find some shade. And, of course, there is always something that needs to be done outside.
No new garden photos today, but soon. So many new blossoms each and every day. Some of the new faces are gardenia, gladiolus, daylily, dianthus, rose of sharon (hibiscus) calla lilies (bright yellow, maroon, lavender) and alstroemeria. I have been spending a lot of time in the front of my house pulling and cleaning up weeds and leaves. I don't think I have ever had this many weeds get out of control like this year. The wonderful rains helped the cause. But, it is OK. In fact, it was wonderful.

I am hoping to get some top soil delivered and then I can give some serious time to my "Iris Garden". It is totally cleaned up of weeds but there is so much hard clay/rock and a couple inches of planting or top soil would give it a very nice boost. I plan to take them all up and clean and trim them and then replant.  It would be so fabulous for me to see it look like it did a few years ago.
I know I have posted this a few times. But, I can't help it. I love the iris so much. I think if you click on the photo it will enlarge and the color and details will show better.

Flowers are such a beautiful piece of God's work of art! Oh, by the way, I am enjoying lots of butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Another blessing.

Happy New Week!

Windows 10 - Roses - Health

I finally took the time a couple days ago to download Windows 10, but with some trepidation. I had read several blogs that noted that they had a lot of trouble and couldn't find their photos and other problems. I chose not to download at the beginning of the offer because I was hoping that if there were "bugs" they would have some of them worked out. I am so thankful that everything has gone well for me. Yes, it took a little time to figure out where everything is with Windows 10 and I still want to learn a little more to make sure I am doings things the easiest way.
Don't ya love that photo? I can't stop laughing because it is so true.

My "White Dawn" Climbing Rose is loaded with buds and started opening this morning and by this evening there are several open roses. It is so beautiful and a very prolific bloomer that can get to 20 feet tall. I have to trim it often when it reaches the top of my fence. It is an older rose and actually was introduced about 70 years ago. It is black spot resistant and can take the hot sun as well as some shade. It has done so well in my garden. I think it likes where I have it planted. It has always looked healthy and that pleases me. Enjoy these photos I took this late afternoon.

Now, a little about my issues with my blood pressure which is called Labile Hypertension. It was a very difficult weekend. I started increasing my hypertension medications on Friday. I felt very ill and my BP readings were all over the place with the highest 205/115, but later in the same day 131/56. I have been through this roller coaster so many times. The last time was in November 2014 when MSM was ill and passing away! This evening my reading is 134/73 and of course I am feeling much better but this morning (9 AM) it was 187/107! If I had gone to the walk-in clinic during the weekend, they would have sent me to the hospital for admission. It has happened a few times in the past. I will do anything to stay out of the hospital! However, my GP will be in her office tomorrow (off today) and I will call to see if she can see me tomorrow. This is no fun! However, being a retired RN and having lived with this for so long (since age 29) helps a little bit. Through the years I have had a multitude of diagnostic tests. It may be time for more. It is always "trial and error" with medication and dosage adjustments. Needless to say, my physical activity is minimal and I am resting most of the time. This is a pretty good definition of Labile Hypertension. "Instead of physical activity, it is usually emotion stress that results in Labile Hypertension. Because of this and its volatile nature, labile hypertension is usually not as receptive to blood pressure medication as other variants of hypertension." Enough said.

Take care and always listen to your body. It can tell you a lot.

Always Learning

One thing about blogging that is healthy for me is the fact that it challenges me with the many issues that arise in the process of posting a simple little post. It seems as soon as I have one issue solved another issue occurs before long. This morning I noticed that my widget of the Burning Candle was not downloading! ! ! Why? For goodness sake it has been performing nicely since I figured out how to put it on my blog a few months ago!
Look how sweet and innocent she looks. I have been so good  to her with regular maintenance and lots of attention (maybe, to much) and love.

Well, I had to start to figure out what was causing the problem. NOTE - I must apologize to my sweet computer. As usual it is not the fault of the computer but the fault rests in my lap. In a short time I found that an AdBlock program that I have had on my computer for months was blocking the download. It took one click of the mouse and I was back in business! I don't know why that occurred. I recently downloaded some new Spyware. So, maybe the issue is related to that. All is good.

Thanks for listening.
